LUGOFF - Graveside service for Charles Edward Solesbee, 59, will be held Monday at 3:00 p.m. in Fort Jackson National Cemetery with military honors. Memorials may be made to the Walter M. Crowe Animal Shelter.
Mr. Solesbee died Thursday, October 22, 2009. Born in Ft. Belvoir, Va., he was a son of the late Gilbert Warren and Muriel Mason Solesbee. He retired from the United States Army as a Major in 1998 after 25 years of service; remaining at Fort Jackson as Chief, Department of Soldier Care as a civilian until his retirement in May 2007.
Mr. Solesbee was a Physician’s Assistant having served in Korea and the Persian Gulf War. He served with the 101st Airborne Division in Ft. Campbell, Ky. and the 82nd Airborne in Fayetteville, N.C. He received the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal – 6th Award, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal – 3rd Award and the Army Achievement Medal – 3rd Award. He received certification in June of 1985 from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. He was the recipient of the Superior Civilian Service Award in 2003 from the Adjutant General of South Carolina and the Superior Civilian Service Award in 2003-2004 from the Surgeon General. He was a member of the Society of Army Physician Assistants.
Mr. Solesbee was an avid fisherman and Gamecock fan.
Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Cindy Jackson Solesbee; daughters, Allison Solesbee Mackey and her husband, Drew of Catawba, and Ashley Solesbee of Columbia; brothers and sister-in-law, Stan and Brenda Solesbee of Hopkins, and Roy Solesbee of Andrews, N.C.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jan and Harry Kelly of N. Augusta, and Wanda and Jeff Leatherwood of Murphy, N.C.; and nieces and nephews.
