CAMDEN-Funeral service for Robert Sloan Barnes, Jr., 86, will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Lugoff Church of God with burial to follow in Wateree Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Tim Shirley and Rev. Tony Barnes will officiate. The family will receive friends Tuesday 6-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff.
Mr. Barnes died Sunday, October 25, 2009. Born in Buffalo, S.C., he was a son of the late Robert Sloan Barnes Sr. and Hattie Knight Barnes. He served in the United States Army Air Corps during WW II. He retired from Hermitage Cotton Mill and was a member of Lugoff Church of God. He was an avid reader.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Mary Lou Houser Barnes; daughter and son-in-law, Linda B. and Ben Boyko of Mauldin, S.C.; brothers, Howard Barnes of Camden, Eugene Barnes of Boiling Springs, and Alvin Barnes of Biloxi, Miss; sisters-in-law, Dorris Melton of Camden and Ernestine Napper of Camden; and brother-in-law, Jack Houser, Jr. of Camden.
