LUGOFF - Funeral service for Bessie Juanita Pugh Strader, 92, will be held Monday at 1:00 p.m. at St. John’s United Methodist Church with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Rev. John Mims will officiate. The family will receive friends Sunday 3-5 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. John’s United Methodist Church, PO Box 218, Lugoff, S.C. 29078.
Mrs. Strader, wife of the late Robert Mebane Strader, Sr., died Friday, December 11, 2009. Born in Randolph County, N.C., she was a daughter of the late George Wesley and Bessie Prevost Pugh. She was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Golden Hearts and the Maggie Lee Truesdale Circle. She received training in interior decorating and loved using her talent to help others. She was a talented artist and had many of her paintings displayed. She enjoyed playing bridge.
A beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, she will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Surviving are her daughters, Betty Webb of Virginia Beach, Va., and Jenny S. (Stevie) Peake of Lugoff; daughter-in-law, Jeanette Embry of Bowling Green, Ky; brother, Herbert Pugh of Grays Chapel, N.C.; sisters, Kathleen Allen of Charlotte and Joyce Pate of Silver Spring, Md.; grandchildren, Dana (Craig) Hill, Julie Blythe, Johnny C. (Laura) Webb, Robert Shannon Strader, Brian Corey Strader, Chris (Jill) Peake, Jana (Curt) Smith, and Cody Peake; and 8 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Robert Mebane Strader, Jr.; 5 brothers; and 6 sisters.
